10 Hilarious Transit Signs
Written by Allen - December 28, 2008
Here are some hilarious signs from transit systems around the world. I've left my thoughts on what the sign means, leave your thoughts in the comments. #1 - Designedly close people may take your valuables I Can Certainly Fit Under the El, Right? WRONG!
Written by Allen - December 11, 2008
Today we have an image of a long tractor-trailer from the White Rose supermarket in New York City. Apparently this truck driver assumed he/she could fit under the elevated subway line in the Bronx. Well they got that wrong! The truck hit into the train structure and did some pretty big damage to the truck as well. Subway blogger Brian Weinberg caught the action and he notes:

No Parking! Only For Setting Down Passengers
Written by Allen - December 7, 2008
Here's one from my London archive trip... Here we see that the police have setup a no parking zone in what appears to be a "forecourt". However you can still "set down" railway passengers. I assume that means you can pick them up from inside the car and then carry them to the train and then set them down onto the train when it arrives. Got other ideas what this means? Leave 'em in the comments. Bendy Bus Becomes an Accordion
Written by Allen - December 3, 2008
This photo comes to us from our German S-Bahn railfan Mark. It's a bendy bus in London from the bus company Arriva. The bus has been wrapped for the Camden Irish Music Festival. What a great and innovative wrap making the "bendy" part look like an accordion! (click photo for larger version) AIGA Looks at Font Usage in the NYC Subway
Written by Allen - November 23, 2008
Paul Shaw at the AIGA group has put together a 9-page documentary on font usage in the NYC subway. It's an amazing read of how fonts changed over the years in the NYC subway and eventually moved to Helvetica as the standard font. It's well worth a read if you are a subway fan or are into font usage.
Don't Be a Hog!
Written by Allen - October 7, 2008
Last week we featured a piece of signage currently running in the Tokyo subway system. Today we are back with another poster, this time it's a man who clearly has a lot going on. He's slouching into multiple seats, eating a bag of potato chips, drank two beers and threw the cans on the floor. He's reading a book with no words on the page he is pointing to but on the other page is a lovely woman. Another woman looks on in disgust and she is thinking to herself "boy i wish he did that at home" like the sign says!
Do Not Put Makeup On While Riding Transit
Written by Allen - October 4, 2008
The Tokyo metro system has launched a campaign named, "Please do it at home". Here we see a woman attempting to shape her eyebrows while a peeper looks at her from outside the train car. You will note that the woman has an entire bag worth of makeup ready to apply while on her way.
The Five Douche of the Week Award
Written by Allen - August 28, 2008
Today I was waiting for the bus at my bus stop. The bus arrived and two old/elderly women got on before me. Both of them needed a lot of extra time to get up the steps and could barely walk. When I got on the bus, I didn't see either woman seated in the front. They were about 10 rows back. So why didn't they take the first two seats? Simple, these five douches were in the first five seats. Four young kids and either the mother or a handler. I can't really blame the kids but they are learning douche behavior early in life. When I got on the bus, I looked right at her and said "that's how you teach them, eh?" - When I got to my seat, another woman tapped me on the shoulder and said, "thanks, no respect today at all". I can only tell you this... if I was on the bus and didn't get up, my mother would have beat my ass. The seats also say, "this seat must be vacated for the elderly or handicapped". Update: Apparently these kids are like 8 years old - certainly old enough to understand how to get up when an elder gets on the bus. The handler or parent should have taken them to the back of the bus which was empty. The Fucker Bus
Written by Allen - August 17, 2008
Here's one straight out of Deutschland! It's the "Fucker" bus. We don't have any interior photos so I can't be sure as to what goes on inside. The bus is parked in front of a church - I will leave what that means up to your thoughts. It's actually the "Fücker" bus and the english word would be "fuecker" but clearly someone forgot the E or the umlaut. Either way, it's hilarious. You can book the bus on this site: http://www.busmietzentrale.de/ Trackwork Photos on Broadway Line in NYC
Written by Allen - August 16, 2008
Coming home today, I was able to snap the photos below at Times Square on the Broadway (n/r/q) lines. The work trains shown in the photos are on the northbound express tracks. It looks like electrical work as I didn't see any tracks - but there's a ton of wood planks - maybe for the workers to walk back from inside the tunnels. |
