Paul Shaw at the AIGA group has put together a 9-page documentary on font usage in the NYC subway. It's an amazing read of how fonts changed over the years in the NYC subway and eventually moved to Helvetica as the standard font. It's well worth a read if you are a subway fan or are into font usage.
